Mr.&Mrs. Szatko

Congratulations to Michael & Tiffany who tied the knot on Saturday May 12th, 2018

Michael & Tiffany began preparing alongside their Groomsmen and Bridesmaids in the early morning of this beautiful overcast day.  Truly a photographer’s dream wedding day from start to finish!!

Tiffany purchased her wedding dress at Promise & Lace.  Her dress was light and delicate with the top half and the back of the dress covered in delicate lace details.  Her shoulder straps had beautiful rhinestone beading along with the outer edges of her cathedral length veil.  This dress was exquisite and fit like a glove on this radiant beauty.

Anticipation filled her parent’s home along with beautiful breakfast spreads and framed notes from the groom himself to his bride.  Make-up was flowing by Makeup Artist Monika from Makeup Worx and Hair completed by the talented Nora.  The Bridesmaids were dressed in a stunning cameo color and were waiting expectantly for this brides’ reveal.

Meanwhile, back at Michaels parent’s house, laughter and good times were brewing.  Michael was found helping Brother-In-Law to be, Shawn get ready.  Shawn was super proud to be a part of this day and you could tell these two had quite the brotherly bond established.  Michael was looking sharp as he   was putting on the finishing touches with his best man.  He was dressed in a sleek black tuxedo with bow-tie.  The groomsmen were waiting all dressed in light grey suits and hollered with cheers of excitement as this groom made his debut.

As the party made it way down to the ceremony memories were being made.  We arrived at a stunning and decorative church dressed in white and gold.  Family and friends filled the pews and watched as the two became one.

The weather stayed perfect as we travel to the portrait destination.  Laughter and good times were being had.  This location was filled with beautiful trees, flowers and towering gates at the beautiful RBG gardens.

As I entered to the reception location held at Winona Vine Estates the entry and hall was created and sculpted by Gary and Sandra from “Oliveira Décor.”  This team duo did an amazing job as you can see.  As the Groom & Bride arrived we headed to the hall for a few more pictures as the hall floor displayed an amazing message for the Bride & Groom.  Winona Vine Estates was amazing, and the service was outstanding! The antipasto bar greeted each guest along with Crab leg, shrimp & more.  As the floor was being prepared the bridal party made their grand entrance and welcomed Mr. & Mrs. Szatko for the second time of the day. The first dance was performed by a Musician by the name of Elena.  She encircled them playing with her rhinestone covered violin.  Exquisite!

As the dinner course was rolling out Elena was setting the stage to play the harp in a stunning globe.  This was something.

This wedding was set with excellence from beginning to end!

I am amazed at the time, energy and planning that was put into making this Bride and Grooms day  to happen.

Michael & Tiffany, thank you so much for allowing me to share your moments and to be your photographer for the day.  I am wishing you nothing but the absolute best for your future as you truly are outstanding people.  Again congratulation and I am looking forward to celebrating more milestones in your future.

The Carrigan Family

Congratulations to the Carrigan Family on their new addition.  Baby Olivia came into the world on April 20th @ 8:29 pm weighing 6 lbs an 15 oz.   Mom and Dad glowed with excitement and so did Big brother "Jackson"

Olivia was such a good baby and was so little I wanted to keep her.  She loved being bundled up!

Dave, Kristen and Jackson you are so blessed to have this little bundle added to your precious family.  I cannot wait to see your children grow and grow and grow over the years to come!

Young love!

What a beautiful couple.  Louie and Ingrid, I am super excited for the two of you and can't wait to celebrate your day with you.

I have know Ingrid for some time now and have met Louie a few times myself at church.  I asked Louie how they met.  He explained one day he was at church during worship and looked across the room and saw Ingrid.  God spoke to him and said "She is gonna be your wife"  He was quite taken back by this.  One day he decided to go over and meet her and they pretty much were glued to the hip ever since.

During our appointment I came to know how much Louie just adores Ingrid.  Both of them glowed brightly. They had a special kind of love.

During our session I saw even more how these two interacted together. They were young, fun and like two teenagers.  They made my day, they were so photogenic and so much fun.

Ingrid and Louie, thank you again for choosing me to photograph your day.  I am so honored and cannot wait.

Natasha&Hailey

Mom and beautiful Hailey came into studio during the Mom and me sessions a couple weeks back and had some fun.  I have been photographing these two for a couple of now and cannot believe how quickly little ones grow.  It truly does make me realize how special my job is.  Capturing memories like this is quite the blessing.

Hailey was super cute and we decided to throw in some bubbles for extra fun.  Oh the excitement was priceless.

Natasha, thank you again for choosing me to photograph your precious family again.

Bryce&Courtney

Big Congratulations are in order for this couple.  A proposal happened over the Easter Weekend and I could not be happier for these two.

Bryce&Courtney I had alot of fun photographing the two of you and getting know about your love story.  you both truly have something special and I cannot wait to see your day unfold.

Congratulations again and until next time.

A Night of Love and Worship

What an amazing Night of Love and Worship at Peoples Church in Hamilton!  If you attended Friday night I am sure you left inspired, refreshed and blown away by all the talented artists in the house.

Some of you may or may not know that I am love Jesus and am passionate about the gifts & talents that he has given to me.  My photography is not only my business but it is a passion that has been engraved in part of my makeup.   I love giving to the house of God and as an artist myself I love worship and being part of the body of Christ.  I believe that giving of yourself is such an amazing gift in itself.

All the artists last night did exactly that.  They gave of themselves for someone greater.  To bring people closer to the heart of God and to speak of His goodness.  To bring all the glory to Him.  Not only musicians gave up their time, but painters, writers of books and poetry as well as Ministries for those less fortunate around the world.

Artists included the following:

Music Artist Cassidy Parlane

Music artist:  Dengiyefa Akene

Music artist:  Rui Furtado

Music Artist:  LifeSong

Painting Artist CMBear

Writers of the book titled, "What love is not":  Cassidy Parlane and Daniela Parlane

Poetry artist:  Daniel Lara

Compassion Canada Representative: Dean Billings

I am thankful that I attended and participated in this amazing filled event.  If you are looking for new music or to purchase art, I would encourage you to check out these artists above.  As well if looking for advice on Marriage to purchase the book above.  You won't regret any of the purchase.

To all the Glory

The McNally&Cui Family

This beautiful and precious family came into the studio on the weekend.  Their little one had so much fun with Dad & Mom loving her up of course.   With a birthday quickly approaching what a great way to celebrate.

Moments like these are so easy and fun when you love what you do.

Thank you McNally&Cui Family,  I look forward to more connections in the future.

Meet The Eisho Family

Miss Leylah came into the world bright eyed and alert.  I have actually never seen such a little one follow you or light up for the camera at such a young age.

These parents were not only blessed by this little ones arrival but they became engaged one day prior to our shoot.

I think this ones arrival will be bringing memories over years to come.  What a special way to celebrate.

I cannot wait to see and develop a long standing relationship with this precious family.

Family of Joy and Laughter

I love the variety of families I have the pleasure of photographing.  This family was so super precious.  Mom was so beautiful and had such an amazing smile.  Dad was so laid back and so easy to get along with.  And the little one, oh my goodness cuteness overload.

Moments like these simply pass by so quickly, capture them while you can.

Singer/Song Writer and Co-Author Cassidy

Hello everyone, on the blog today is Singer/Song Writer and Co-Author Cassidy.  But before we begin, a little history first!

I met Cassidy and his wife Daniela at church a few years back and they were pregnant with their very first child. The two of them were so excited to be new parents.  I so remember there excitement.  I photographed the maternity and the birth of their two beautiful children.

Over the years  of knowing these two I have seen the artistic side of both of these two.    Cassidy being an amazing vocalist who could just flow with songs so easily and Daniela as an artist with a sketch pad and Art pencils.  They also both had an ability to share and speak about the Gospel.  One thing I have noticed is they both have a passion and desire to share the gospel and help people.

Cassidy reached out to me not to long ago and shared all that was happening in his and his wife's life.  A new song and book were being launched and published.  So he required some shots for his album cover and other materials.... Of course, I was over-joyed at the opportunity to be a part of this journey.

Cassidy and his wife began a journey together.  One that included their own personal journey of marriage in book format.  I asked Cassidy and Daniela what prompted their book writing. Let's hear what they had to say;

"Daniela and I have a background of a past failed marriage - we recognized that we had experienced very similar scenarios. We also discovered we have a passion to write as well as minister to others on this subject since we have gleaned so much from our pasts. We both set out to completely surrender our lives, and the relationship department in particular, in order to pursue God's will for our future (now) marriage. This is yet another common thing that we shared and compelled us to write about it after much Bible- mining and prayer."

"With our prayer and reading we felt God bring us to the following scripture from

Corinthians 13:4;

Love is patient. Love is kind. Love isn’t jealous. It doesn’t sing its own praises. It isn’t arrogant. 5 It isn’t rude. It doesn’t think about itself. It isn’t irritable. It doesn’t keep track of wrongs. 6 It isn’t happy when injustice is done, but it is happy with the truth. 7 Love never stops being patient, never stops believing, never stops hoping, never gives up.

Cassidy explained that through their journey of writing God began using him to write his first single titled, "All the Glory." Cassidy explained that God gave him two scriptures and the song began to flow. The single was birthed from:

Romans 14:11;

as certainly as I live, says the Lord,
    everyone will worship me,
        and everyone will praise God.

and

Revelations 7:11

All the angels stood around the throne with the leaders and the four living creatures. They bowed in front of the throne with their faces touching the ground, worshiped God” titled, "All the Glory."  How exciting!!!   That's not all,  doors of opportunity for them began to open for them to share their Journey, book and song in an event format.

I am so excited for these two as they were also given the opportunity to share their journey at an open event titled, "A Night of Love and Worship."

This event will include the releasing of their book "What Love Is Not". Cassidy Parlane will also be debuting his new single "All The Glory". In addition, there will be live worship art, spoken word poetry and musical specials by local community artists. Every guest will receive a complimentary copy of the single "All The Glory".

Please share and pass along!

Shooting into the window

Have you ever wonder why when shooting into a window with your self as a subject does not work?  How do people get themselves in proper colour and the window like a white lit background.

If you know me and my studio work, you will see that I love the white background at times.  I often put models or maternity sessions right in infront of my large window.  If,  properly lit is will wrap around my subject and make my subject pop and this dreamy white lit background will occur.

But how does it do that?  Today I have attached some images to help show you what you can do when shooting with your DSLR Camera while shooting in Manual Mode and in RAW format.  (not JPEG)

With the example below, I used a vase of flowers on a chair as I did not have a model in studio.  These images are straight out of camera.  I have not used any studio lighting and have not edited.  These are 100% RAW images.

Lets start by giving you an idea of where the light was coming from outside and time of day details. etc.  This is important due to the Camera setting I used.  My home faces East, in Hamilton.  I was using the East side window in my home around 2 pm.  The light source (sun) was at the side of my home and therefore, there was not a lot of light coming in the studio at that time.  I have sheers on my front window to diffuse (lessen) the amount of light coming in.  I also want to get that white light and this is my backdrop source.

My camera settings stayed the same all the way through the images, except for my shutter speed.

Camera was set at ISO 640, Fstop 2.8.

For the image below my shutter was at 1/125th of a second.

You can see with this image the flowers are dark and the background is lit slightly.  If you look closely there are lines of my window.  The lines in the window are not wrong for photographing people if this is the look you are going for. The next image below is the same camera settings, but the shutter speed was at 1/50th of a second.  Now if you have a moving subject like a child you are going to want to increase your shutter speed and let's face it, children are fast. In that case bum your ISO up to compensate.

So you can see that with the ISO and aperture (fstop) being the same and now having a slower shutter speed, my subject are more in there natural colour.  The overall image is brighter and more appealing.    For the last image, I added a reflector to show you what would happen if I put this in front of the subject.  What is a reflector?  It could be a large white poster board, a towel, a white sheet or you can purchase one.  It would have to be large enough to light the subject infront.   What happens is that when you put your reflector 45 degrees to your subject the light coming from behind your subject will bounce off it and now light your subject.  Brilliant right!  More light to light them up.   Another tip for the use of this reflector is that when photographing people you don't want to have what I call, Dead eyes.  Meaning no catch light in their eyes.  That sparkle you see in someone's eyes when light anywhere hits them.  The only time would not care to see the catch light is if they are not looking at you then don't bother with the reflector.  If they are looking at you I would strongly suggest that you have one.  This is however just my opinion.  I find it more appealing and real especially when close up.    So having said the above, the next image, all the settings were the same.  I only added a reflector in front.  The shutter speed was still at 1/50th of a second.

As you can see everything has really popped and is nice and light and airy.  The subject is now evenly lit and beautiful. I hope you enjoyed this lesson today and my hope is that I can write again about a different topic.    If you have a topic that you would like to talk about and for me to write about, I would love to hear from you.  It could be anything, photography related.  It could even be questions about how to get better pictures using your point and shoot with the kids.    The idea of parts of my blog going forward is to help and educate you to be a better photographer.   You don't have to own a professional camera to ask.    If you do try these above, I would love to hear from you as well and answer any questions you may have to the best of my availability.  I can't get to everyone but I hope to try.    Also, if you know of anyone who could benefit from this read, please share away.  Looking to hear from you! Cheers!

The Sullivan Family

What a precious family!

Proud Dad and Mom welcomed Baby Joshua home in the month of December.  It was definitely a Christmas to remember, especially for their little girl.

Georgia is a sweet, gentle and loving BIG sister, definitely loves her baby brother. A little mommy! so cute.

This families interaction was super sweet with one another.  They were so calm and soothing to be around.  A real pleasant atmosphere was left in the studio, except when Georgia had to leave.  She just did not want to go home.  I guess I like kids and it shows.  Especially when their are toys in the studio and colouring pages. lol

Mom and I had pretty deep conversations about her in-home birth experience.   We spoke about the plan and the importance of the atmosphere she wanted to have when Baby Joshua came into the world to meet the family.  This woman had a plan and did everything in her power to make sure Joshua was welcomed accordingly. An inspiration really!

Mom and I also spoke about her passion of being a Doula and the rights of women and what they should know and be informed of in giving birth.  If any, of you need someone to speak to with lots of advise, this is a woman to speak to.

And let's not forget her husband, such an amazing example of love and support and strength.  He ADORES his wife and children and through the session this showed. So helpful and encouraging.

When I have the opportunity to work with my clients and get to know them it just allows me to embrace everything about them and work all the more for them.  It helps me to connect with them and embrace everything.

I love photography and working with clients like this makes me love it even more.

The Kraynic Family

Welcome to the blog is this beautiful bunch!  These children were amazing to deal with.  They loved the session so much, that some did not want to leave.  lol.  I guess I know how to have fun.  Well it shows as this pictures are just gorgeous.

This is a gonna be a great Mother's day gift for Grandma!

Welcome Home Baby Danica!

Welcoming to the blog is Baby Danica!

Proud parents, Glaister and Sherri are happy to finally have their precious & beautiful baby girl home after a long 9 day stay at McMaster Hospital.

Danica was born 4 weeks early with "blood type incompatibility jaundice and breathing issues".  This made their visit with in NICU draining but when I asked mom how Danica was doing she said "She’s a little fighter and they were are gonna get through this"  Sherri noted that "having a baby in the NICU is emotionally draining, but it’s so nice to finally be home as a family of three"

What advice Sherri do you have for any parents that might go through this? "Be patient, have a good support system, and take it one day at a time".  That's all you can really do. :)

What is your favorite moment with Danica?  "My favourite moment with her is when I see her smiling up at me when she is laying on my chest.  She just loves snuggling with mommy this way."

When Dad and Mom were in studio I noticed how gentle Dad was with her. She was so tiny in his big hands.

How is it watching your husband with her?  "When I see my husband with her my eyes fill with tears because he’s such a good Father. He is kind and attentive and she’s got Daddy wrapped around her finger already."

Well, Danica you are so beautiful and I know that there are great things in store for you.  You have amazing parents and are so loved.

Welcome home and can't wait to see your grow over the years to come.

:)

Jackson & Yoo Extended Family

Hello there all,

Meet the Jackson Family!!!  I have know this couple for some time now.  They are amazing people who love and serve their family and church with passion.  They truly have such an extreme heart for people!!

Matt&Anne contacted me to do their portraits and expressed that had family coming from New Zealand. Of course I said yes as I just love families.

This house was full with hospitality, food, fun, laughter and most of all family.  What a way to celebrate and remember this visit.

Hope you enjoy these photos Jackson and Yoo Family as much as I did taking them!!

Merry Christmas from the Gowers!!

Dad & Mom arrived in studio and I totally fell in love with their PJ's.  After all, what Canadian does not like Moose!  I am a huge fan of this attire. (my heart was happy)

Sweet Lily was so precious blue-eyed beauty played a little shy at first, but opened up with some Christmas tunes, Moana, and a story read by Dad and Mom.

This is what Dad and Mom shared about Lily.  "Lily absolutely loves books and stories. She will bring you a book and sit in your lap. She'll even make you read it over and over again. She also loves puzzles and will sit for long periods of time and work at them. Hopefully she'll be a book warm and smart lol."

I have no doubts about this at all.  Lily appeared to be very much an observer and a reader.  So to me that is a win, win.

Lily I know that you are gonna have an amazing Christmas, and I believe you are gonna receive my stories for Christmas!

Merry Christmas.
